If you’ve been reading the blog for a while, you know I already confessed my love for all things smoothie. They are quick, nutritious and extremely versatile, not to mention you can take them anywhere with you. I actually prefer them to juices, because the pulp that is leftover from juicing seems like such a waste. Yes, I know you can store it and use it for cookies, cakes, oats etc. but it just seems like too much bother to me. With blending smoothies, there is no waste and you have the added advantage of all the fibre which keeps you full for a long time and helps your digestion.
Another point in smoothie’s favour is that if you don’t feel like drinking it, you can actually make a proper meal out of it – and a beautiful one at that! Breakfast seems so much more sophisticated and appetising when you have a beautifully decorated bowl in front of you.. a small work of art π Ok, ok, I might be getting carried away here π
I have made another two of my favourite options here, one is a fresh and zingy Lemon & Pear Smoothie with vitamin C from lemon & pear, healthy fats from avocado, iron, zinc and a loong list of vitamins and minerals from spinach and heart-healthy omega-3s from flax seeds. If you like your smoothie a little sweeter, feel free to add some maple syrup.
The second bowl is Chocolate Hazelnut Smoothie with fibre from the oats, healthy fats, magnesium, calcium and vitamins B & E from hazelnuts, iron, zinc and a whole lot of vitamins from spinach and of course, raw cacao which is full of antioxidants.
Step one – throw everything into the blender and turn on. Step two – you’re done π
Pour into a bowl and garnish with whatever your heart desires, there are endless options here: fresh or dried fruit, nuts, seeds, nut butters, maple syrup… Then step back and admire your artwork before you dig in.
